Music Video: Come Come Ye Saints
Interview Question: Why did you come on the pioneer trek?
On June 18th and 19th three large Mormon youth groups combined for a spiritual journey. That journey took them back in time to the midwestern sates and had them simulate walking over 2,000 miles to the great Salt Lake valley in Utah. During the mid to late 1800′s Mormon pioneers traveled from Missouri to Utah via wagon train and hand cart companies. During this time thousands of saints crossed the plains looking for peace and freedom to practice their religion. There were many hardships as the saints crossed the plains, babies were born, people died, weather turned cold and snowy.
There are many stories from this time in history that exemplify qualities of character these modern youth desire. Since this trek is a reenactment it was not as changeling for this group of believers. They traveled approximately 3-5 miles per day over a two day period working together as family groups. During these two days they were attacked by a mob of ruffians (all staged), witnessed a baby birth (G-rated), attended a funeral (all staged), the young women endured pushing hand carts without the young men, the young men endured poison oak, they met historical figures, and team worked their way home. After hours of hard work they danced and played rejoicing in new friends and new experiences.
This is the classical acting class from G.E.N.I.U.S Common Wealth school. This class creates their entire production from learning their lines, coordinating their practice schedules, making costumes, to scheduling their performances. This is a scene from Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing”.
This was shot during Yucaipa High School homecoming. It was an awesome game to watch, but the best seat in the house was the one closest to the video monitors on the field.
