As an adult you rarely saw Mamie without a camera nearby. She loved to take pictures of people and important events in their lives. She was a great believer in keeping in touch with both close and distant relatives and introducing relatives to each other. In part, she will be remembered as the protector of family memories, the family’s pictorial historian.
Mamie was a long-time caregiver of children and the elderly. She worked until her mid-60s. She was a woman who loved the Lord and was always willing to go the extra mile to visit a sick relative or friend, to deliver a gift, or take someone shopping. She was on the missionary board at her church for over 40 years and was a mother of her church—Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan. She enjoyed traveling and writing in her daily journal.
She was preceded in death by her husband Willie James Williams, Jr in 1982.
On June 30, 2010 she went to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Bennie Solomon and daughter-in-law Valerie Jane Solomon of Riverside, California; granddaughter Carmen Solomon-Fears and husband John Fears from Cheverly, Maryland; granddaughter Lisa Michelle Solomon (deceased); grandson Victor Solomon and his wife Yvonne Pillars Solomon of Riverside, California; great granddaughter Fayola Fears of Cheverly, Maryland; great grandson Jarrett Solomon of Riverside, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends throughout the U.S.
